CLIMATE350, owes its origins to the safe upper limit of 350 ppm of CO2 in the earth's atmosphere for all life to thrive. We are currently at 420 ppm and rising. I will offer my perspectives, and, a commentary of that of others, spanning Technology and the Physical & Social Sciences, on the steps towards Climate Action.
Abstract: In this interview, I talk about how AI technology can help industrial organizations maximize the value of their assets and processes and mitigate their carbon emissions towards the eventual goal of mitigating climate change.
Abstract: Business sustainability in an environment of economic and climate headwinds requires a new focus on the efficiency of assets that are integral to generating business throughput, as well sustainability which is increasingly integral to business KPIs, the natural capital provided by the environment for both the short and long term. A converged business and technology approach, goes far above and beyond and AI/ML-based high quality asset & process control predictive maintenance, and takes the all-important step of linking energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, mitigating redundant and spare assets and in providing a holistic view that optimizes both business KPIs and sustainability of natural capital in a single sweep. The energy industry stands to gain immensely with improved cost efficiency together with a clear pathway towards responsible resource utilization and consequent emissions reduction.
Abstract: Earth is the combined home of an astonishing array of animal and plant species, incredible landscapes and oceans, sculpted by the various forces of our solar system over the past 4.5 billion years. Humans, who have evolved as a dominant and seemingly intelligent species over the past 2 - 3 million years, have in the last 200 years, negatively disrupted the delicate balance of the rich biodiversity on our only home, and through the various market driven forces of industrialization caused a severe energy imbalance on a planetary scale resulting in global warming and apocalyptic forecasts of climate change. Is all lost or can we as a species recognize that the totality of life on our planet is far greater than our individual selfishness to dominate at all costs ? What will it take for us to redeem ourselves and provide an enriching home for all species for generations to come?
